TV Personality Ernie Johnson Says This Will Be Final Season on 'Inside the NBA'
Johnson said he can see the finish line after 37 years in sports media, but will keep working on March Madness and other projects.
On Wednesday, legendary broadcaster Ernie Johnson announced he is stepping away from Inside the NBA after the 2026-27 season, concluding his 37-season run as host.
Johnson cited his rigorous preparation becoming 'a challenge' rather than 'a joy' as the primary reason, alongside recent health issues including heart bypass surgery 14 months ago.
Calling themselves a 'package deal,' analyst Charles Barkley confirmed in September that he also plans to leave the show after this season concludes.
While stepping down from Inside, Johnson emphasized he is not fully retiring, noting plans to continue hosting March Madness and launching production company 32 Bowties.
The 70-year-old broadcaster plans to spend more time with his wife of 44 years, Cheryl, and their five grandchildren during this final season.
