In a statement issued on Friday 4 September, the state announced that it had finally decided not to impose a directive against which the communities were standing.
"The government chooses a territorialised approach," explained the minister responsible for ecological transition, Mathieu Lefèvre, who did not want to "penalize communities that have already achieved very good results."
The project, which was relaunched in May by the head of state, Emmanuel Macron, had aroused opposition from communities on all sides.
The government chose a "voluntary and territorialized delivery" rather than Emmanuel Macron's obligation in May.
The deposit of plastic bottles will not be imposed on the communities. The government announced on Friday 4 September a voluntary scheme, abandoning the project launched in May by Emmanuel Macron in the face of opposition from local elected officials.
