It is a continent of ice of 14 million km2 - larger than Europe - that has been consecrated as a land of peace and science. Antarctica is protected by the Treaty which bears its name since 1959 and fifty countries signatory to this text, as well as scientists, are currently gathered in Japan to evoke the stakes around the white continent all south of the planet: melting ice, protecting emperor penguins but also overtourism.
In Hiroshima, Japan, representatives from around 50 countries are currently discussing the protection of Antarctica. Animals living there are increasingly suffering from climate change. We are addressing key issues of the conference.
A conference in Hiroshima in Japan is currently dedicated to the challenges in Antarctica, which are strongly fueled by the climate crisis. While the ice in the region is increasingly melting, tourism is clearly increasing. The emperor penguins are also threatened, for which appropriate protection is now required. Possible solutions, however, come up against resistance.
