Mason Crane Makes England Return Eight Years on From Last Appearance
Crane earns his first England call-up in eight years after taking 15 wickets in the Vitality Blast and impressing for England Lions.
On Thursday, England named a 16-player ODI squad for the Pakistan and Sri Lanka tri-series in Rawalpindi and Lahore, recalling leg-spinner Mason Crane after eight years while resting Jofra Archer to manage his workload.
Captain Jos Buttler remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained last week, while Jacob Bethell continues recovery from knee surgery. Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return after resolving hand and groin issues respectively.
Crane, 29, last played for England during the 2018 Ashes Test in Sydney. The Glamorgan leg-spinner claimed 15 wickets in the Vitality Blast this year and took two for England Lions against Sri Lanka last month.
Batting coach Mike Yardy will step up for this series after Marcus Trescothick took a break following his interim charge of the recent Test series. Head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Harry Brook oversaw the squad selection alongside selector Marcus North.
Uncapped Sussex duo James Coles and Henry Crocombe join the squad again, providing depth to the batting lineup. Brydon Carse remains unavailable while under investigation by the Cricket Regulator following an incident in Derby in August.
Leg-spinner Mason Crane has been named in the England one-day squad to take on Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a three-day one-day series in Pakistan. The fast bowler Simon Jones was the last player from the county to be selected by England, and that was in 2004. 2002 was the last time a player from Morgannwg - Simon Jones once again - was selected in the England one-day squad.
