Dolly Parton Receives Emotional Emmys Tribute
Sally Field and Reba McEntire honored the country icon with speeches and a performance during the Emmys In Memoriam segment.
At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Sally Field and Reba McEntire led a tribute to Dolly Parton, honoring the iconic country singer who died in August.
With the Emmys being the first major awards ceremony since the country legend's death last month, the tribute set a precedent for upcoming memorials across the awards season.
Field, who starred with Parton in the 1989 film Steel Magnolias, called her a "real giant," while McEntire performed Parton's 1983 ballad "Appalachian Memories" honoring her Tennessee roots.
Global superstar Noah Kahan performed the Simon and Garfunkel classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water" during the In Memoriam segment, which also honored Catherine and Rob Reiner.
The ceremony established a precedent for the upcoming awards season, which will likely feature numerous memorials for industry figures lost this year, ensuring Parton and others are remembered.
