Emily Armstrong Gets Honest About Joining ‘Linkin Park’
She says the band’s songs should keep their emotional impact as Linkin Park returns with Emily Armstrong after Chester Bennington’s death.
In the new documentary Unshatter, Linkin Park vocalist Emily Armstrong reflects on the intense pressure and self-doubt she experienced after joining the band in 2024 to replace late frontman Chester Bennington.
Linkin Park remained inactive for years following Bennington's 2017 death, eventually reuniting in 2024 when Armstrong, formerly of the Los Angeles rock group Dead Sara, was revealed as the new co-vocalist.
Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain spent four days a week for months rehearsing and adjusting song keys to ensure classic tracks felt natural for her voice, creative director Joe Hahn confirmed.
Armstrong's arrival has proven a resounding success, with the 2024 comeback album From Zero receiving widespread praise and the band headlining arenas, stadiums, and festivals globally, including the Download Festival in June.
While striving to deliver emotional impact for fans, Armstrong emphasized that "nobody could ever, ever replace Chester," stating it was important to "don't try to be like anybody" to maintain her own identity.
