Two Dead After Plane Crashes Into Paddock
Authorities say the two occupants died at the scene, and investigators have established a crime scene and notified aviation safety officials.
On Friday, two men died in a light plane crash in a paddock on Bunnan Road near the Scone Aerodrome in the NSW Hunter Region; emergency services were called at 1:55 PM.
Police, ambulance, and fire crews responded to the crash site, where a fire truck remained at 3 PM due to fuel spilling from the wreckage and authorities established a crime scene.
"We were advised an aircraft had crashed near the Scone racecourse," a spokesperson said; officials from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and Recreational Aviation Australia have been informed.
Specialist officers are examining the crash site as part of an investigation, and a report will be prepared for the coroner regarding the circumstances of the two men's deaths.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000; the crash occurred in the Hunter Valley Police District, roughly two hours from Newcastle.
