- On Thursday, July 16, Greater Vernon Advisory Committee leaders met with Minister Randene Neill to propose accessing Swan Lake as a temporary emergency water source for the drought-stricken region.
- The Regional District currently faces significant water shortages, prompting officials to implement Stage 3 water restrictions and coordinate conservation measures among large-volume agricultural users to preserve dwindling supplies.
- Existing strategies include utilizing the Antwerp Well for Lavington and reducing domestic use on Kalamalka Lake, which allows areas normally supplied by Duteau Source to be served by the lake, conserving water at the Aberdeen Plateau.
- According to the RDNO, Neill and staff were "receptive to the proposals and indicated they would review the options and provide a response as soon as possible."
- Staff and elected officials continue to work closely with Provincial partners to identify immediate solutions while advancing longer-term infrastructure projects to improve water system resilience, as residents are urged to strictly adhere to all water restrictions.
