Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea Have Endured a Long, Painful Journey to Olympic Figure Skating Gold
Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea overcame serious injuries and long careers to help Team USA win gold in the 2026 Olympic figure skating pairs team event by a one-point margin.
In Milan, Team USA's Ellie Kam and Danny O'Shea helped secure the team gold on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2026, posing afterward with their medals.
After years of setbacks, Danny O'Shea, U.S. pairs skater , and Ellie Kam, 21-year-old U.S. pairs skater , overcame O'Shea's foot surgery and Kam's concussion last summer that sidelined her for about a month.
By finishing fifth in the short and fourth in the free, Kam and O'Shea edged rivals and secured the margin of victory over Japan.
They now head into the individual pairs event starting Sunday and Monday, with Kam and O'Shea's victory eliciting pride and relief from Kam's parents, Mako and Ben.
Historically, the U.S. has not produced an Olympic pairs champion and has not medaled since the 1988 Calgary bronze, making this result significant.
