Bruins Show Plenty of Fight to Grind Down Chief Tormentor Panthers
Jeremy Swayman stopped 40 shots and Boston scored three times in the first period to hand Florida its third loss in four games.
On Sunday, the Boston Bruins defeated the Florida Panthers 4-1 at TD Garden, with Elias Lindholm, Mikey Eyssimont, Morgan Geekie, and JJ Peterka each scoring. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 40 saves to secure Boston's fourth consecutive victory.
Tensions flared early when Boston defenseman Nikita Zadorov and Florida forward Brady Tkachuk fought at the opening faceoff, setting the stage for a penalty-filled affair with 126 total penalty minutes, including 70 minutes of misconducts.
Swayman raised his record to 9-3-1 with his 40-save performance, while Geekie extended his scoring streak to four consecutive games with a power-play goal in the second period.
Boston's victory moved the team to 13-4-1 overall and 8-1 at home, extending their undefeated streak at TD Garden. Florida fell to 9-7-2 after the road loss during their three-game trip.
The Panthers close their three-game road trip Tuesday at Columbus, while the Bruins host longtime rival Montreal on Thursday for the second of four consecutive home games.
