Egypt, Russia Advance Dabaa Desalination Project Beyond Nuclear Plant Needs
Egypt is moving forward with plans for a major seawater desalination project in Dabaa that will serve as a broader development catalyst for the region, rather than solely supplying water to the under-construction Dabaa nuclear power plant, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Essmat said on Wednesday.
Rosatom CEO Likhachev and Egyptian Energy Minister Esmat reviewed the construction of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The second unit reactor was installed in July, and the first electricity production is planned for 2028. Cooperation was also discussed for a water treatment plant, nuclear medicine, and additive manufacturing centers.
