Man who stabbed his partner to death before blowing up their home jailed for minimum of 23 years
He will serve at least 23 years after stabbing Annabel Rook 31 times and triggering a gas explosion that damaged the house.
On Tuesday, electrician Clifton George was sentenced to life in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court with a minimum term of 23 years for murdering partner Annabel Rook and causing a gas explosion.
George killed Rook on June 16 last year after she attempted to end their 10-year relationship, stabbing her 31 times during a row at their Stoke Newington home.
Following the murder, George triggered a gas explosion causing around £400,000 in damage; Mr Justice Constable KC rejected his loss-of-control defense, citing 'overwhelming' evidence of his volatile temper.
Rook's mother, Susanna Rook, described her daughter as 'optimistic, inclusive, and full of fun,' while sister Sophie Rook told the court the family faces the 'painful question of whether we could have done more.'
Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, who leads policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, paid tribute to Rook while noting the Met's commitment to tackling domestic violence; support is available at 0808 2000 247.
