Voters in Toronto, across Ontario, head to the polls for municipal elections
Closely fought mayoral contests in Toronto, Mississauga and Ottawa headline a vote that will also choose councillors and trustees.
Voters across more than 400 Ontario municipalities head to the polls today to elect local mayors, councillors, and school board trustees in the 2026 Ontario Municipal Elections.
High-Profile mayoral races in Toronto, Mississauga, and Ottawa highlight the elections, with candidates debating local issues and the impact of Premier Doug Ford's provincial policy changes.
Toronto's mayoral contest pits incumbent Olivia Chow against Brad Bradford, while Mississauga features former Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie, incumbent Carolyn Parrish, and Alvin Tedjo competing for the top job.
Polls remain open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. today, and voters must provide identification showing their address to cast ballots in these local leadership races.
Beyond mayoral contests, voters will elect school board trustees, though eight boards remain under provincial supervision and regional chairs in Waterloo and Niagara are now government-appointed.
