- The race for the seat held by Republican Senator Thom Tillis is pivotal for Senate control, where Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority and Democrats need four flips to reclaim power.
- Nearly 71 percent of registered voters have heard "a great deal" or "some" about Cooper, compared with 47 percent for Whatley, while 86 percent of voters rated inflation and cost of living as "very important."
- Cooper's campaign reported about $20.7 million cash on hand at the end of June, compared with roughly $3.4 million for Whatley, giving the Democrat a significant financial advantage.
- With early in-person voting set to begin October 15, the race enters a critical stretch, as North Carolina began mailing absentee ballots to nearly 50,000 voters last Friday, Sept. 4.
