He married the love of his life, Barbara (Atkinson) Bruce, on September 6, 1994, and she preceded him on November 16, 2015. He was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and loved going golfing every day. He enjoyed his time he served in the Navy and going to many places around the world; including being stationed in Hawaii for 11 ½ years.

Elbert Bruce, 82, of Dillsboro passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026. Elbert was born on Tuesday, October 5, 1943, in Milan; son of Louis and Thelma (Stamper) Bruce. Elbert will be missed by his son William Kenneth Bruce of Portland, Tennessee; daughters Christy Bruce of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Jeanneth Bruce Caberos and Mary Ann Bruce both of the Philippines; brothers Jerry Bruce of Dillsboro, Larry (Mary) Bruce of Dillsboro, Ray (Faye) Bruce of Rising Sun, and Norman (Sandy) Bruce of Aurora; sister Janie Barnett of Tell City, Indiana; grandchildren Grace-Lynn Elizabeth Honeycutt Bruce and Ryleigh Hope Yawn. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Thelma Bruce; wife Barbara Bruce; and brother James Bruce. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given in honor of Elbert to the Dillsboro American Legion Post #292.
