An electric truck without a cab, without a steering wheel and without a person on board now runs on a German public road. Lidl has just launched an experiment in Edermünde, near Kassel, with the Swedish specialist Einride who goes much further than a simple prototype presented in a parking lot: the vehicle actually provides deliveries between a logistics center and a Lidl store.
Lidl's self-driving electric truck, tested in Germany, can make three rounds a day and deliver 15 euro pallets of goods at a time.
No flying, no seat, no even cabin: Lidl is experimenting in Germany with a truly autonomous electric truck, without a driver to supervise driving. A technological feat that also raises the question of the future of road drivers.
