For the first time in its history, the European Investment Bank is pouring money into nuclear energy. Finnish technology company Steady Energy will be given up to 40 million euros (972 million crowns) to develop small modular reactors for supplying heat to cities, the bank announced on Tuesday. This is a step to support the development of nuclear energy as a complement to renewable sources in Europe.

The European Investment Bank is financing for the first time the development of one of the small nuclear reactors that the EU aims to have in operation in the 2030s.
