Once again, the figure of José Antonio Aguirre, the first lehendakari in history, has been flagged from the ranks of EH Bildu as a referent in the current context of Basque politics. At the end of June, Arnaldo Otegi referred to him as an example for being able to amalgamate very disparate forces to face fascism, then represented by the Francoist army that was preparing to take Euskadi by force.
