Edmonton teacher facing child exploitation charges, may have left Canada: ALERT

An Edmonton high school teacher, Jimmy Buena, is facing charges for making, accessing, possessing, and transmitting child pornography, according to ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation unit.
A warrant for Buena's arrest was issued after officers could not locate him at St. Oscar Romero Catholic High School on June 24, 2025.
Investigators believe Buena has fled to the Philippines following a tip from the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
ALERT officials stated that it remains unknown if any of Buena's students were impacted, given that the charges are related to online activities.
