Oilers Hire Mav Aide
EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, JUL 14 – Paul Coffey shifts to special advisor as Edmonton replaces goaltending coach and adds three new assistants aiming to improve post-season goaltender performance, Oilers said.
On Monday, the Edmonton Oilers announced coaching staff changes for the 2025-26 season, adding Paul McFarland, Peter Aubry, and Conor Allen.
The changes follow the decision not to renew goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz’s contract and Paul Coffey moving back to a special advisor role after coaching last season.
McFarland, 39, returns to the NHL after coaching the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen to a 45-17-3-3 record, while Aubry, 48, moves up from NCAA's University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Allen, 35, joins from the U.S. National U17 team.
UNO coach Mike Gabinet called the NHL opportunity “pretty special” for Aubry and his family, highlighting Aubry’s prior success developing goaltenders honored by the NCHC.
These staff updates aim to improve Oilers’ post-season goaltending consistency and maintain stability after back-to-back Stanley Cup final appearances.
