The victim was identified as Matthew J. Shaw, 49 years old and resident of Edcouch. According to Cameron County’s Forest Guard Division, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on June 21, about a mile north of Access to Beach Number 5 and later died in a Brownsville hospital.
