Eckington School Celebrates Record-Breaking GCSE Results for 2026
The school said 226 Year 11 students achieved 44.2% grade 5 or above in English and maths, with three pupils earning top grades in every subject.
On Thursday, August 20, 2026, students across the region celebrated GCSE results day, with St Thomas Becket Catholic School and Sybil Andrews Academy reporting record-breaking performances.
These strong outcomes stem from consistent staff support, family partnerships, and targeted school improvements. Eckington School saw record-breaking results following its 2026 Ofsted report, demonstrating sustained academic progress across the community.
Performance metrics show significant student success across institutions. At Sybil Andrews Academy, 75 per cent of pupils achieved grade 4 or above in maths and English, demonstrating strong foundational competency.
Individual students also excelled, with Alfie Turner, 16, of Bury securing 11 grade 9s. Many are now transitioning to post-16 opportunities, with schools reporting large cohorts preparing for Sixth Form in September.
Principal Chris Bishop of Caroline Chisholm School stated these results "demonstrate what can be achieved when high expectations are combined with outstanding teaching." Schools are supporting students as they embark on their next academic or vocational chapters.
