Baby Born on David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday Named After Him
Pupils dressed as animals and joined wildlife activities to learn about habitats and global warming, with one school calling them architects of a greener future.
Pembrokeshire pupils and staff at Stepaside School celebrated Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday last week with a themed wildlife day, learning about local habitats and environmental issues affecting their community.
To honor the conservationist, The Parkland Federation in Brassey Avenue, Eastbourne, transformed into a "vibrant ecosystem," with pupils arriving dressed as flowers, insects, animals, and Sir David himself.
Pupils participated in dance classes, bug hunts, and hands-on experiences with reptiles and spiders, providing children with engaging wildlife education and direct interaction with the natural world.
In Powys, Wales, parents Lauren and Stephen named their newborn Ambrose Attenborough Whyte after the broadcaster, who was born on May 8, the same day the environmentalist turned 100.
Headteacher Sally Simpson noted schools are committed to teaching sustainability, helping children become "architects of a greener future" and inspiring lifelong commitment to protecting the natural environment.
