Early voting begins Friday in Minnesota: What voters need to know
All 87 counties will offer early in-person voting as officials say 1.1 million people voted in the August primary.
Starting Friday, Sept. 18, Minnesota voters can cast ballots for federal, state, and local offices ahead of the Nov. 3 election, with mail-in ballots beginning distribution and select locations opening for in-person absentee voting.
Monday night, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a new United States Postal Service rule that would have required states to provide voter lists to a "Federal Ballot Mail Portal," addressing concerns about mail ballot access.
Secretary of State Steve Simon said the Supreme Court ruling restores "full confidence" that voters will have access to their mail ballots. Voters will decide Minnesota's next governor between DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth.
All 87 counties will offer early in-person voting starting Oct. 16, where voters can place ballots directly into a tabulator like Election Day. Absentee ballots mailed back must arrive by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
The Aug. 11 primary drew a record 1.1 million voters, signaling strong engagement in this cycle. Eligible Minnesotans aged 18 or older may participate if they meet residency and citizenship requirements.
