Flights were taking off and landing at New York City-area airports Tuesday with some delays and cancellations, after hours of disruptions resulting from damaged communications lines at a key air traffic control facility in Philadelphia that were later repaired.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in X that around 19H00 GMT flights were being resumed at LaGuardia airport and in Philadelphia, while flights to Newark and JFK airports were suspended. "An Amtrak construction crew accidentally cut off a fiber optic line in New Jersey, causing a fall in the telecommunications service and forcing FAA to stop flights in the northeast," said Duffy. Amtrak is the United States passenger train company.
