MEA Says 288 Indians Missing in Nepal Floods as 21 Are Rescued
India is coordinating rescue efforts as 21 nationals have been saved and more than 5,000 Nepalese Army and police personnel search flood-hit areas.
- On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs reported that 288 Indian nationals remain missing following flash floods in Nepal, while 21 citizens have been rescued.
- Missing individuals include 73 workers at the Trishuli-1 power project, pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, and groups from West Bengal and Kerala, as the local death toll reached 270.
- India dispatched two aircraft carrying 10 and 37.5 tonnes of supplies, including eight tonnes of medicines, and is preparing to mobilize Bailey bridges for relief operations.
- MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is coordinating with authorities in Kathmandu and Beijing, where around 200 Indians in Tibet have also sought assistance.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured his counterpart of further support, though the Ministry has not received requests to mobilize the National Disaster Response Force or Army engineers.
