Dyson’s New Robot Vacuums Aim at Shark with UV Stain Detection and Powerful Scrubbing
The $1,199 R3 model uses UV light, AI vision and heated water to identify 200 household substances and scrub stains.
- At IFA Berlin, Dyson unveiled the R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV, a robot vacuum using ultraviolet LED technology to detect invisible stains on floors. The $1,199 model launches in the American market on Sept. 15.
- Dyson integrated AI vision, UV light, and green LED illumination to identify 200 different household substances and spills. Once detected, the robot uses a 12-point hydration system applying 158-degree Fahrenheit water to scrub stains.
- The lineup includes the Costco-exclusive Dyson R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry for $699, featuring triangular mopping pads for corner cleaning, and the $549 R1Nurovi Dry. All three units feature a 30,000-pascal motor and self-cleaning dock.
- Dyson engineer Guy Turner emphasized the company's commitment to American consumers, stating the Singapore-based firm takes data privacy "incredibly seriously." Turner confirmed the US is "one of Dyson's biggest markets."
- Chief engineer Jake Dyson stated the company has shifted from purely mechanical devices to intelligent machines that "see, think and respond." Dyson uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to allow robots to understand their operating environments.
