iRobot Unveils Roomba® Duo at IFA 2026, Proving the Future of Floor Care Has a Familiar Name
The system pairs a vacuuming main robot with a compact companion unit that reaches tight spaces and uses a shared home map.
On Friday, September 4, 2026, iRobot unveiled the Roomba Duo prototype at IFA Berlin, Germany, featuring a main floor-washing unit that deploys a smaller, autonomous companion robot to navigate tight spaces the larger unit cannot reach.
The company designed the Duo to solve a long-standing trade-off where wet-dry vacuums provided powerful cleaning but lacked autonomy, combining heavy-duty steam cleaning with a slim, deployable companion robot for comprehensive home coverage.
Equipped with 46 newtons of downward pressure, the main unit features a steam-mop, while the companion Roomba Plus 575 uses PerfectEdge mop pads extending up to 31mm to clean corners and baseboards automatically.
Tom's Guide Video Producer Tom Antill saw the device firsthand, stating, "This replaces the need for a standalone vacuum, as I can get deeper cleaning with that larger unit, and it also offers steam cleaning."
Currently a concept with no confirmed price or release date, the device remains in development. iRobot product manager Adam Pope stated the team is gathering market feedback to explore whether the system fits future home robotics.
