- The Department for Work and Pensions has issued an update for disability benefit claimants, with around 13,000 cases still unprocessed and some individuals owed thousands in compensation.
- With the move from legacy benefits to Universal Credit, some saw their monthly pay cut, and reports indicate some experienced decreases of up to £180 monthly, Leigh Day said.
- Following a High Court challenge, legal firm Leigh Day secured settlements for some claimants, with awards between £200 and £3,000, yet approximately 13,000 cases remain unprocessed.
- A DWP spokesperson said the department is committed to resolving arrears swiftly, expects remaining cases to be settled by September.
- Looking ahead, the issue could cost hundreds of millions and affect tens of thousands, with 57,000 people impacted and a £452 million total cost expected.
