Dunfermline man who sexually assaulted women on crowded train to Edinburgh jailed
Jamie Muir pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and received a nine-month jail term and sex offender registration, police said.
Jamie Muir, 33, was sentenced to nine months in prison at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on April 29 and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault.
On November 16, 2025, Muir boarded an extremely busy train from Inverkeithing to Edinburgh bound for a Scotland rugby match at Murrayfield. Standing behind two women, he sexually assaulted both within minutes of departure, using the crowd to conceal his actions.
When one woman confronted him, Muir apologized and claimed disorientation. Other passengers then intervened, prompting him to exit at North Queensferry, where British Transport Police subsequently identified and arrested him using shared images.
Detective Crawford Gillies described Muir's actions as "opportunistic and sickening," stating the British Transport Police will "stop at nothing to bring sexual offenders to justice."
Gillies emphasized, "There is absolutely no place for this type of behaviour anywhere on the railway network," noting that officers can discreetly meet trains at the next station to assist passengers reporting incidents.
