More than 115 reports of plates detaching and at least six injuries prompted the recall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
- Tzumi Electronics recalled about 50,000 units of its FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells sold at Walmart after multiple reports of weight plates detaching during use, posing a serious injury risk.
- According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 115 incidents of weight plates dislodging from FitRx handles have been reported, resulting in at least six injuries including broken toes, bruises, contusions, and lacerations.
- Sold at Walmart from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100, model 8361 units feature adjustable weights ranging from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds in 2.5- or 5-pound increments.
- Consumers should immediately stop using the adjustable dumbbells and contact Tzumi Electronics for a free replacement of the dumbbell and tray, or write "Recalled" on the storage tray and dispose of the product after registration.
- Customers can verify affected units by locating model and serial numbers on the storage tray side, where FitRx branding appears alongside handles to aid identification of recalled model 8361 units.
