Wearing Everyday Item While Driving in Sunny Weather May Land You with £100 Fine
Motoring experts warn that tinted sunglasses, dirty windscreens and poor control in bright glare can trigger penalties of up to £4,700.
Drivers in Britain could face penalties up to £4,700 for motoring offences that become more likely during sunny weather, often involving restricted visibility or damaged windscreens.
Keith Hawes, director of Nationwide Vehicle Contracts, warned that sun glare is "one of the most underestimated hazards on the road," reducing visibility and reaction time for drivers.
Highway Code Rule 94 advises against wearing tinted visors or sunglasses that impair vision; if police determine eyewear has obscured a driver's view, it could result in a £100 fine.
Under Regulation 30, driving with a cracked windscreen can lead to fines of up to £2,500, while Highway Code Rule 226 requires headlights during sun glare or face £1,000 penalties.
The RAC cautioned that motorists could face penalties reaching £2,500 if their windscreen wipers aren't functioning properly, as Regulation 34 stipulates all vehicles must be roadworthy with fully operational equipment.
