Roald Dahl Original Sketches for Memoir to Be Auctioned
- Original black ballpoint pen drawings by Roald Dahl for his 1984 memoir Boy are scheduled to be auctioned in Edinburgh on 18 June during Lyon & Turnbull’s auction featuring books and manuscripts.
- The sketches were found in an envelope belonging to Ian Craig, who oversaw the production of Boy during a tight publication schedule and created the final illustrations inspired by Dahl's drawings.
- Dahl, who only illustrated Boy, recalled childhood exploits including a prank on Mrs Pratchett involving a dead mouse in a gobstopper jar, which he depicted in one of the sketches.
- The collection is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000, and a specialist from Lyon & Turnbull described the opportunity to view Dahl’s original hand-drawn illustrations as truly exciting.
- The auction offers insight into Dahl's creative process and honors Ian Craig's key role in producing Boy and many more of Dahl's famous children's stories still enjoyed worldwide.
