Dramatic videos capture the moment 2 officers were wounded in a deadly Minneapolis shooting

Bodycam video shows officers coming under fire as investigators say the suspect shot five people before police killed him.

  • On Wednesday, the Minneapolis Police Department released body camera footage from the September 2 shooting at Shoreline Plaza, an apartment complex at 15 East Grant Street in downtown Minneapolis.
  • The incident began at 4:36 p.m. during an apparent custody exchange between Carlton Neal Johnson II and a woman, officials said. Johnson was facing eviction following months of complaints involving weapon brandishing.
  • Officers climbed the stairs to the ninth floor where a fire extinguisher struck by gunfire created a "haze" before exchanging fire with the suspect. The violence left three dead and six injured, including three officers.
  • Officer Joseph Michnowski, who suffered abdominal wounds, is now home from the hospital after surgery, the department confirmed Wednesday. Officer Yahye Ahmed, shot in the leg, was released the following day.
  • Police were called to the apartment complex 438 times in two years before the mass shooting. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues investigating the incident captured in the newly released footage.
