Mother of 3 Rescued From Rushing Flood Waters in North Texas; Rescue Caught on Video
Police used jumper cables and a fire truck cable to rescue a mother and her three children, who were later found unharmed.
On Saturday, White Settlement police rescued a mother and three children from a vehicle stranded in floodwaters in the 8100 block of Western Hills Boulevard just after 11 p.m.
As a storm swept through the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex on Saturday, officers positioned throughout the city responded when a sedan became high-centered on a curb with its front end engulfed by fast-moving water.
Sgt. John Banner and Officer Chris Wiseman improvised a rescue using jumper cables as a makeshift lifeline, anchoring the cables to prevent the mother from being swept away while waiting for fire crews.
Firefighters successfully pulled the vehicle back to the roadway, and medical personnel checked all four family members, confirming the mother and her three children were unharmed.
In response to the incident, White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook ordered all patrol vehicles be outfitted with water rescue throw bags to improve preparedness for future storm emergencies.
