'Dog' rescued from Florida canal turns out to be coyote pup
The exhausted pup was taken to a veterinary center for rehabilitation after firefighters and a kayaker helped pull it from under a dock.
On Monday, Cape Coral Fire Department crews rescued an exhausted coyote pup from Britannia Lake after responding to reports of a dog struggling in the water.
Neighbor Brian initially spotted the coyote falling into the lake and jumped in to help, prompting bystanders to call 911.
Kayaker Denae Judd monitored the pup from her kayak and alerted firefighters that it had crawled under a dock, enabling the successful rescue.
Crews transported the exhausted pup to East West Veterinary Care Center, which will coordinate transferring it to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife for recovery.
To honor their vital assistance, the fire department presented both Judd and Brian with Community Recognition Coins, calling the operation "a great team effort.
