Dog Owner Seeks Accountability After Black Lab Dies in Hot Daycare Transport Van in Wheeling

- Waggles staff picked up the 110-pound dog at 9 a.m. for a routine visit, but temperatures soared into the 90s with heat indices in the triple digits before the family received a call at 4 p.m.
- Steve Serota rushed to the Wheeling facility and found Miller unresponsive inside his crate. "Knowing what it must've been like for him to be in there is absolutely heartbreaking," Serota said.
- Waggles released a statement saying they are "devastated about the incident," while Serota filed a police report requesting a full investigation into transport protocols and safety procedures.
- "There was a gross amount of negligence here," Serota said, demanding immediate safety upgrades to prevent such tragedies. The family is speaking publicly to ensure this never happens to another family.
