'Do not eat' warning issued to Tesco shoppers after 'health risk' recall
Tesco told customers to return affected 270g packs for a full refund after the wrong salad mix was packed inside coleslaw labels.
On Wednesday, Tesco recalled its Tesco Finest Caesar and Smoked Bacon Coleslaw after a packaging error caused some 270g packs to contain Tesco Finest Four Cheese Potato Salad instead.
The mispackaging poses a "possible health risk" for consumers with a mustard allergy, according to the Food Standards Agency , because the coleslaw label fails to declare the potato salad's mustard ingredients.
Affected items are 270g packs with a use-by date of September 4, 2026. The FSA advises consumers with a mustard allergy not to eat the product.
Tesco has issued a recall notice instructing customers to return the item to any store for a full refund. The retailer also contacted allergy support organizations to inform members about the recall.
The FSA issues an "Allergy Alert" when missing labels create food safety risks, explaining that products are "withdrawn" or "recalled" when they should not be sold due to hazards.
