I Was at the Top of Mexico Pyramid when a Gunman Opened Fire

Seven tourists were wounded and a young boy was among the victims as a Houston firefighter and physician provided aid, authorities said.

  • During a recent trip, Houston Fire Department Capt. Andrew Roseborrough and physician Jyothi Lagisetty were visiting the Mayan pyramids near Mexico City when a gunman opened fire on tourists Monday.
  • Mexican authorities reported that a 27-year-old gunman wounded seven people and briefly held hostages before military personnel arrived within minutes, leading the assailant to die by suicide.
  • Among the wounded, they discovered a young boy between 5 and 7 years old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Roseborrough heard about five or six shots fired while Lagisetty witnessed the gunman "waving the gun in the air."
  • Hearing calls for a doctor, Lagisetty immediately provided medical assistance without hesitation. Her swift response drew praise from officials for saving lives during the chaotic scene.
  • Roseborrough reflected that while he knew his wife's medical expertise, he had never witnessed her perform under live circumstances. "I was very impressed with my wife that day," he said.
