In 2007, compensating for the fact that honorary distinctions had not been awarded by the Government of Quebec for several years (advice in law from the queen or advice in law from the king), the Quebec Bar established the honorary distinction Avocat Emeritus, to promote the image of the legal profession by promoting its most deserving members.
