Trump Heckled at Mississippi Rally Over White House Ballroom Renovations
The president ordered security to remove the man after the protester shouted about the White House ballroom project and Trump accused him of being paid.
On Monday night, a protester disrupted President Donald Trump's rally at the Crossroads Arena in Corinth, Mississippi, shouting about his White House ballroom. Security escorted the man from the venue as the crowd booed.
Construction of the White House ballroom, which replaced the East Wing, has faced scrutiny over its soaring price tag, now estimated at more than $400 million. Donors have contributed more than $330 million toward the project.
Trump dismissed the heckler as a 'paid protester,' claiming such demonstrators received $250 and suggesting billionaire George Soros might be behind the payments. He repeatedly told the man to 'go home.'
Campaigning for Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, who faces a tight midterm race in Mississippi, Trump told the crowd, 'I was just at the punchline!' as he resumed his remarks.
Controversy over the ballroom continues as the project remains one of several renovations pursued during Trump's second term, with critics expressing anger over the demolition of the East Wing.
