One out of three women in Europe inherited a progesterone receptor from Neanderthals — a genetic variant associated with increased fertility, fewer blood clots in early pregnancy and fewer spontaneous abortions — as determined by a study by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany and the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.
