Monzo Launches Phone Plan that Gets Cheaper Each Year
Digital bank Monzo Bank Limited is entering the mobile market, opening a waiting list for a new phone service built on the Virgin Media O2 network set to roll out this summer.
Competition among phone providers is set to intensify as Monzo enters a crowded market already challenged by newer financial firms Revolut and Klarna, which introduced mobile offerings earlier this year.
The service offers three digital SIM packages priced at £8, £12, and £20 a month, with customers earning a 5% annual discount resulting in savings of up to 30% over time.
Monzo designs its plans to avoid yearly contracts and exit fees, aligning with new regulations and following Chancellor Rachel Reeves' pressure last year for stronger consumer protections against mid-contract price rises.
While Monzo claims to reward long-term loyalty for its more than 15 million customers, the firm retains the ability to adjust plan prices at any time, distinguishing its model from traditional carriers.
