Anthropic Comes for the Midmarket Software Spend

Anthropic and Wall Street investors are backing engineers who will build Claude-powered tools for banks, hospitals and manufacturers, with $1.5 billion committed.

  • On Monday, Anthropic announced a $1.5 billion venture with Goldman Sachs and Blackstone to deploy artificial intelligence into mid-sized companies' operations through the Claude Partner Network.
  • Gary McConnell, CEO of VirtuIT, called the move a "huge opportunity" to address AI under-adoption in the midmarket, where companies often lack in-house resources for large deployments.
  • Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Anthropic are each investing around $300 million, while Goldman Sachs contributes $150 million to build custom, Claude-powered solutions for customers.
  • Shari Lava, IDC's group vice president of AI, data, and automation, warned the deal could pressure small to mid-size SaaS vendors by introducing agentic workflows into the midmarket.
  • Fueled by skyrocketing revenue from Claude Code, Anthropic is eyeing a public listing as soon as this year while competing with OpenAI's rival joint venture.
