Three million Christmas trees are sold in Sweden every year. Most are grown in southern Sweden. In Västerbotten there are no official Christmas tree growers at all. – The cultivation areas are there, but growth is very slow here in the north. In addition, the risk of frost damage to the shoots is greater, and a frost-damaged spruce cannot be sold, says Jörgen Hajek, silviculture specialist at Skogforsk in Sävar.
