The Volkswagen manufacturer was again convicted for deceitful compliance with the gas emission standards of its vehicles. The decision of the Pau Court of Appeal is the first in France at collective level.
In September 2015, when the US Environmental Protection Agency revealed that Volkswagen had equipped millions of vehicles with software capable of detecting emissions tests and modifying engine discharges accordingly. In France, almost 950,000 vehicles (commercialised between 2007 and 2015) were involved. They showed compliance with the Euro 5 standard which simply did not exist in real conditions.
