Three associations announced on Wednesday, 17 September, the filing of an appeal before the French court against the state for inaction in the global scandal of the "dieselgate". In this case, several car manufacturers are suspected of having commercialized vehicles with software that cheats on the anti-pollution tests and is thus more polluting than what was communicated.

In 2015, the scandal exposed car manufacturers for cheating on diesel engine emissions tests. Now, advocacy groups are suing over the lack of recalls for the vast majority of affected vehicles and the excessive pollution that followed.
These three associations, including two French, believe that the state has not acted enough in the Dieselgate scandal by leaving thousands of vehicles in circulation.
The associations accuse the State of not having withdrawn the rigged vehicles from the traffic and demand a penalty payment of EUR 50 million per semester.
According to Radio France's investigation unit, a legal action must be brought on Wednesday in order to force the State to withdraw diesel vehicles still equipped with fraudulent software from the road. The reminders of these highly polluting vehicles remain extremely limited.
