Diesel prices hit record high amid U.S.-Iran tensions
AAA said diesel climbed to a record $6.23 a gallon as Brent crude rose above $108 and gasoline prices also increased nationwide.
On Tuesday, U.S. diesel prices hit record highs as the ongoing standoff between the United States and Iran in the Persian Gulf drove crude oil futures above $100 a barrel.
Saudi Arabia canceled oil shipments to Europe after a drone attack disabled the East-West pipeline, while Chevron's CEO warned that buffers helping mitigate price and supply risk "have largely now played out."
According to AAA, the national average for gasoline stood at $4.31 a gallon as of Monday, while diesel prices reached a record $6.23 per gallon in Cincinnati overnight.
President Donald Trump claimed current price increases stem from President Joe Biden's administration, though Sen. Elizabeth Warren blamed Trump, calling costs "the highest price ever for September."
Sen. Chuck Schumer rejected Trump's claims, calling them his "newest LIE," as energy executives warn the monthslong crunch in oil markets is entering its most acute phase.
