Finishing touches being made to key part of £3m Diana memorial revamp in Germany
The £3 million refurbishment includes a 12-metre wooden galleon with disabled access and new play areas, serving one million annual visitors, officials said.
- In the summer of 2026, the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground will reopen featuring a full-scale 12-metre galleon as its centrepiece.
- The revamp responds to equipment the charity said had 'reached the end of its life', with a 3 million revamp funding upgrades after the autumn 2025 closure.
- Featuring a 12-metre galleon, the revamped play structure includes a tunnel slide, two crow's nests, a ramped entrance and wheelchair-accessible space.
- Situated next to Kensington Palace, the attraction draws around one million visitors per year, making it the UK's most visited playground, Royal Parks says.
- Timberplay and Richter Spielgerate built the galleon in Frasdorf, Bavaria, Germany, using slow-grown mountain larch from the Bavarian Alps, and Royal Parks staff inspected it before shipment.
