DFAT investigating claims ex-ADF soldier killed in Ukraine
DFAT is verifying claims that the former Australian Army medic died in combat after posting footage from the front line.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is investigating reports that a former Australian Army soldier, known as Mozzie, was killed in Ukraine.
Mozzie served as a combat medic with Med Team Alpha, a unit controlled by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, and featured in a recruitment video for the International Legionnaires two months ago.
Two social media accounts representing foreign fighters identified the man as recently dying in combat, though officials were unable to reach the soldier for comment on Monday evening.
At least 14 Australians have now been killed in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, while the total number of foreigners killed on the Ukrainian side is estimated to be between 600 and 1000.
Other Australians including Samuel Michael Pedrazzini from Lismore in the Northern Rivers were killed earlier this year, while Oscar Jenkins remains a prisoner of Russia after being captured serving for Ukraine.
The Australian authorities are checking information on the possible death of a former soldier who went to war with Ukraine and known as Mozzie (Mozzie), as reported by 7NEWS with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Island State.
